Transition Area

The Washington DC Triathlon features a well-marked transition area with ample signage, space and excellent traffic flow. With large easy-to-read signs for every row in the transition area it is easier than ever to find your bike on race day. Each row is clearly marked. In addition, Run In, Run Out, Bike In and Bike Out are clearly marked with large, visible signs. You will always know where you are in the DC Triathlon transition area.

The transition area is located directly adjacent to the swim start and swim exit. The average time to run from the swim exit back into the transition is approximately 30 seconds. The run back into the transition area is 95% grass so it will be easy on your feet! In addition every triathlete has a numbered space on the rack so bikes will be easy to locate.

The transition area opens on Saturday before the race at 1 PM for mandatory bike racking and will close at 7 PM that night. All athletes must rack their bikes on Saturday before the race. Overnight security will guard all equipment.

On race day the transition area opens promptly at 4:00 AM and the first wave starts at 6:00 AM. The transition area closes at 5:55 AM. Bike mechanics are available on race day, and on the Saturday before, to perform light maintenance. Water will also be available on race day. Porta-johns will be easily accessible to the transition area. The transition area will re-open for bike pickup on race day at 9:05 AM.

Gear Bag Check

The DC Triathlon provides a gear check service on race day. The gear check drop-off location is adjacent to the entry for the swim start. This way all athletes can keep their clothes, shoes, etc until just before they get into the water. Drop off your race day bag to us just before you get into the water and we’ll bring it to you at the finish line.
