Sprint - Swim .8k
One of The Most Well-Marked Swim Courses in the Country!
The Washington DC Triathlon features one of the most well-marked Sprint distance triathlon swim courses in the country. Every 100m is a giant 6′x6′ bright orange buoy marked with the distance from the start so you know exactly how far you’ve goneā¦and how far you have to go! This allows triathletes to keep very close time on their swim splits and also makes it easier to sight the course. Keep all buoys on your left and use the Sprint Turn Here buoy in bright yellow to guide your turn. The swim exit is marked by two large 6′x8′ bright orange buoys making the sighting for swim exit easier than ever before!
Athletes will enter the water prior to the swim start with the race start signaled by a horn. Kayakers, lifeguards and rescue boats are accessible throughout the course.
Athletes can watch the race along the banks of the Potomac River before their wave is called. The on-deck pen for the swim start is located next to the ramp leading into the water. Have your goggles and swim cap on and be ready to go once your wave is called. Athletes will walk down in wave groups to the dock and enter the water prior to race start.
